The Cortez Cabal is one of the four Cabal families. They are the most powerful Cabal in the world and run Cortez Corporation. They have Spanish heritage, who were involved in the Spanish Inquisition. They are based out of Miami, Florida. Their current head is Benicio Cortez, and he has named, his illegitimate son, Lucas Cortez as his heir.
During the short story, Baby Boom, it is revealed that the board of directors is divided on whether to support Carlos or Lucas for the next CEO, despite Benicio's support of Lucas, due to Carlos having married and had a child, cleaning up his act somewhat. After Paige becomes pregnant unexpectedly due to the intervention of a member of the board, Lucas discovers that they intend him to be just as much of a puppet leader as Carlos would be. After conferring with Sean Nast, he informs his father of his decision to merge his followers in the Cabal with those who followed Sean during the Nast Cabal's split after the death of Thomas Nast. After some persuasion, Benicio agrees to this.
By the time of Wolf's Bane/Wolf's Curse, Lucas and Sean are co-CEO's of their own cabal, the Lucean Cabal, which is made up of the employees who followed them when their cabals split. It is unclear whether the rest of the Cortez Cabal is now led by Carlos, still led by Benicio, led by someone else, or is disbanded due to lack of proper leadership.
