While "Nix" are a species of demi-demon, The Nix is the title used by Eve Levine and The Fates to describe a specific adversary.
Nix have the ability to instill the power of will into humans who have a desire to do evil but not the strength to go through with it. The Nix gives them the means to act on their chaotic desires. The Nix then gets to enjoy the chaos she helped cause.
This particular Nix also discovered the ability to possess her partners after she got tired of trying to convince humans to do evil, only to have them back out. She can generally only possess women because that was the form of her first possession.
Partners[]
1666 France: The witch Marquise Marie-Madeline has a spell to allow the Nix to possess her body and aid her actions. Marie-Madeline wishes to allow the Nix to posses her body with a spell she had recently discovered. However, after the Nix murders Marie-Madeline's father, she stays in her body for 5 years. First, she kills Marie's lover, then makes it so that the police would pin both murders on Marie, before reciting the incantation to leave the human body. However, the spell does not work, and Marie is apprehended and executed with the Nix still trapped inside her. During the execution, a necromancer named Nicolette sees an angel strike "Marie-Madeline" with a sword, separating the Nix from the body, and take the Nix away.
1892 Massachusetts: The Nix partners with Lizzie Borden, who will go on to become one of the most infamous murderers of the United States for killing her entire family in cold blood. After death and separation from the Nix, Lizzie is forced to relive the murders over and over again.
1927 San Francisco: Jolynn is a particularly dull partner who needs lots of prodding from the Nix to come up with feasible plans. The Nix abandons her to the authorities.
1938 Cleveland: Agnes Miller is a surgeon who focuses her killings on sending a message to the authorities. The press dubs her the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run. The Nix is frustrated that Agnes only wants to kill in specific patterns instead of going on a true murder spree.
Andrei Dachev is a supernatural serial killer who the Fates recruited to help catch the Nix. He became her partner instead.

Amanda Sullivan, now held in maximum-security prison for horrifically murdering her own children to punish her husband. A good source of information on the Nix's current whereabouts.

Attempts to Capture[]
The Fates sent multiple people to capture the Nix:
Janah, a full-blooded angel, got trapped in a hell dimension and went insane.
Katsuo is an ascended angel, but was too rigid to be able to lure the Nix into a false sense of security and capture her.
Zadkiel, another angel, went missing, presumably trapped in a hell dimension the Fates cannot find.
Andrei Dachev is a supernatural serial killer who the Fates recruited to help catch the Nix. He became her partner instead.
Eve Levine is a supernatural ghost, and catching the Nix was her trial to become an ascended angel. She was successful in the task.
